Sam won her first international cap in 2008 while studying sports science at university. Sam became a regular in the England squad and competed for England at the 2013 euro hockey tournament as well as the 2014 Commonwealth Games winning silver medals at both events.
Sam was part of the winning England Hockey team during the 2015 European Championships, beating reigning champions Netherlands in the final.
During the Rio Olympic Games Sam won her 50th international cap and became part of the team that won Britain’s first ever women’s hockey Olympic gold.
In 2017 Sam was awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List for her services to hockey.
After over 125 caps for England and Great Britain, Sam has retired from international hockey and has embarked on a successful career in television presenting. Her new career brings with it different kinds of stresses and adaptations from a professional sports background.
